New Book Explores Christmas Romance, Secrecy and Courage

New York, New YorkSeptember 15, 2012

Not many women would go this far.  A young woman discovers an old diary at a Bed & Breakfast.  She reads it and is so moved that she sets off to find the man who wrote it.  However, there’s a problem: she’s getting married in less than a week, on Christmas Day.

In The Christmas Dairy, the husband and wife writing team, Elyse Douglas, draw upon the romance, spirit and magic of Christmas to explore the mysteries of love, loss and redemption.

Alice Ferrell is an entrepreneur who owns her own gift shop.  She’s practical, professional and loyal.  But her business is failing and she’s also struggling to plan her wedding.  She’s tired and dispirited.  Although she and her wealthy fiancé argue frequently, they’re meeting in a picturesque Pennsylvania town to be married on Christmas Day.

Alice leaves New York and is soon lost in a violent snowstorm.  Night descends.  She nearly hits a man who darts out in front of her.  He’s frightening and mysterious.  He directs her to a nearby B&B.  In a bookshelf in her room, she discovers an old diary wedged behind a row of books.

The diary was written by a man 15 years ago.  She reads it and is immediately overcome by its honest and tender style.  Intrigued, she sets off on an “innocent” journey to try to find the man, to learn what happened to him.

During her journey, Alice must confront her past, present and future and make a decision that will change her life forever.

Elyse Douglas is the pen name for the married writing team Elyse Parmentier and Douglas Pennington.  They have completed four novels: The Astrologer’s Daughter, Wanting Rita, The Christmas Diary and Christmas Ever After.

Elyse Douglas Explore How Tragedy Reunites High School Lovers

New York, New York May 15, 2012.  Fifteen years have passed when a devastating tragedy reunites high school lovers for a passionate summer.  This new book, from the married writing team of Elyse Douglas, is a story about the obsession of first love and the later, shattering, tender journey of an all-consuming love affair.

Elyse Douglas drew upon their remembrances from high school and college, as well as their experience of marriage and family, to create lovers who struggle to create a new life that is threatened by secrets, betrayal and tragedy.

When his high school sweetheart experiences a devastating tragedy, Dr. Alan Lincoln reluctantly returns to his Pennsylvania hometown to see her.  Rita was a small town beauty queen—his first love whom he has never forgotten.  He was a nerd from a wealthy family.  Her family was poor.  They formed a strong connection during their senior year, but Rita married someone else, and the marriage ended tragically.

Alan’s marriage of three years is disintegrating, and he sees in Rita the chance to begin again with the true love of his life.  Rita has been mentally and emotionally shattered, but she reaches out to Alan and struggles to build a new life with him.

Elyse Douglas have written two novels, including The Astrologer’s Daughter.  They currently live in New York City
